MyBlogLog Widget
IIIII love Widget Love, a customized javascript from a member of MyBlogLog which I have now put in the goodies section of my website. I had it listed as my homepage because everytime you visit it remembers you came (as long as you are a member of MyBlogLog) and your picture will be listed closest to the top! However, there are too many clicks to get back to my real home page so I decided to place it on my own hompage and visit often. I plan to manipulate his code and use it later, when I have time for some fun.
Enjoy these toys... ;-)

File Hosting Service
Someone really loves ProLogic Web Hosting by StartLogic. This free file hosting service on RogePost is a simple site which will let you upload files and let you and others download them. I'm sure it's just a marketing ploy -- and certainly not for security data -- but average joe use... why not?!

SNAP - A WICKED COOL Tool
I read about SNAP before Christmas and it's like everything else... filed in the "OMG I want that" part of my brain and eventually gets re-accessed again somewhere at the right time and WHAM! -- Now it's mine :)
Check it out - it's so neat. Configurable too -- just mouseover a link, sign-up and it's all yours.
Thank you to my friend Paul Hurst from MyBlogLog for reminding me about this lovely DHTML feature.
Stock Photography Tips
Do you have photographs as I do which belong in a gallery? Isn't it about time to start selling those images?
Shutterpoint is a stock photography house and I am about to enter... Here's my story:
I've been hording a collection of photogaphs since I started taking pictures in 1984 -- I was just a grade-schoolgirl then and certainly most of those pictures are better left in the archive but since I turned professional I have been avoiding my resposibility to post them to a stock house.
Back in the 90's I refrained from this chore because there were too many hoops to jump through to accomplish the task -- ie: digital media had not hit the scene and internet? what is that?
I've run out of excuses. It's time and I'm ready. I'm about to join a stock site which boasts a whopping 85% payout on sold images - they claim it is the highest payout for stock images available on the net.
Recently, I did a post about stock services. I may just have to snoop into those I already mentioned also while I'm attending to one of my greatest desires - to sell the work I have already completed in the camera.
A review of ShutterPoint Photography stock service is coming in the future; I hope to have a raving review for you!

Pingo's virtual VOIP
Since I'm talking about phone services, here is a link for $5.00 USD in FREE calls just for signing up at Pingo.com, a service for International calling cards online.
iBasis, the parent company of Pingo, is a major provider of international long distance service to phone companies around the world and the tenth largest carrier of ALL international phone calls. Pingo has a nice catchy sound and I think the company is reaching out to users the best way possible -- a buzz!
For a measly 98 cents USD per month to keep your account live, Pingo international calling cards have no additional fees. You don't have to change carriers and there is some sort of RateWatcher making sure to always give you the best rate possible.
Sorry I haven't tried it yet but I'm planning on giving it a whirl for the five bucks they've offered and I'll chat with my friend in Canada -- I know the last time I looked on my normal phone bill I was a little shocked at what I had to pay. Pingo is going to give me a rate of 1.8 cents/minute Pingo's Rates -- I just checked my phone bill and I was charged .20/minute.. I checked my carriers website and the going published rate 'today' is .19/minute Cingular Rates... Ahhhh, I cannot believe what I have just discovered!
Now you go look and compare: Call the UK: United Kingdom calling card rates or China: China calling card rates or anywhere! Pingo's Sitemap.
Talk often - Talk more -- Pay less! <--I made that up ;-) Enjoy :)! ![]()

Nimbuzz
So sorry if you missed me. I missed me too :) The long weekend turned into a VERY long weekend but enough about me, lets get on to something for you!
I found a really neat site called Nimbuzz. From thier website:
Global calls without international tariffs - Now make global calls from your mobile and only pay your cheapest local rate. No credits needed.
Mobile Chat - Chat on your mobile with Nimbuzz, MSN / Live Messenger and GTalk buddies. For Free.
Mobile Group Calls - Now connect up to 5 people in a Group Call. On their mobile or on their PC. Instantly.
The sign-up is really easy and I read a review of the service quality which was postive. I have yet to give it a full blown run myself but I'm working on it. Have fun!

Online Advertising Calculator
AdsBay Auctions, Buy and Sell your Ad Space has a free javascript online calculator to estimate the value of adspace on your website.
Yesterday I ran this Website (The Robin-Ann.com Web & World) and came up with a figure over $8.00/month for a sitewide graphic based ad pretty much anywhere on the page along with 10+ ads and I used Technology as the target market. Today I'm getting $0.00 figures but I'm not convinced so I'm giving it another few tries.
Okay, the new figure is up to $7.88/month - a number I saw yesterday in addition to the eight dollar figure. I'm going to run some additional tests on other sites I manage to see what other types of revenue I can expect.
Even though this is the third generation of the calculator, I think they are still working out the bugs because yesterday I ran into some php errors and timeouts similar to server overload, but that happens on the best of sites so no points lost in my book.
This calculator will be a good place to direct anyone wishing to advertise on my site, and your site too! I haven't seen anying like this anywhere else on the web and it seems like (they claim) it really works! Hmmmm, I'd think the figure would be higher but I don't think that is thier fault... ;-) + *smirk*
While I'm on this tangent I started thinking about my site and the links I have positioned in obvious and conspicuous places. They are there of course for me to be able to access my 'toys' easily but this calculator has got me to thinking... I 'should' be getting paid by Blogger, Technorati, MyBlogLog and Microsoft! ...I have some text links too but I haven't given those the cost analysis yet. Needless to say - I haven't seen any checks from any of them, but the free services they provide me I think more than make up the difference.
The calculator link is Adsbay's Link & Ad Price Calculator. You can read more on thier blog too. Even if it's just to satisfy your own curiosity -- I'd suggest you give it a try :)! I hope you make a million!

MyBlogLog - WishList
My favorite widget (Okay, hold on -- realize there are only two listed on the site right now so my choices are a bit slim so haha!) is the 'Recent Readers'. At first I thought it did not fit into the context of my blog; the more I visited MyBlogLog, the more I visited other members with the widget blogroll on thier own site, the more I wanted to see this on my site too! It's a fun reference link to readers and also a great way to keep your new connections fresh. I want more widgets!
I am always learning online (most of my html experience etc) - I suppose this is my new venue. Google has always been my poison of choice but then again - I was (and still am) always looking for something specific. I just started using the search function which is quite useful to search for your interests. I'd like to see the profile page expanded out a bit to make the search more useful. I did a search for photography and came up with 110 Communities - which I was not incuded - hmmm. I changed my Short description to read the word photography and BOOM! There I am - now on the searched list.. Make that 111 :)
There should be an option to expand the page to show the communities at 50,100,all etc and a mouseover to give a little more information about where you may click. This little script is found on many popular websites.. I'll have a list of my favorites on Tuesday.
I'm sure I can come up with more, I'll have to make a Wishlist 2...

Get Clicky!
While attending to one of my favorite pastimes... Web-Surfing, I came accross a website offering free web stats called Clicky Web Statistics.
The site is in beta so they are offering free services until launch. I signed up for an account and will have further review of my results and interactions with them - but I have to say the sign-up was quite painless and a little javascript insert to begin taking stats is just like Technorati and MyBlogLog and probably a boatload of similar websites will ask you to do.
I am looking forward to the results, it is always fun to see the who/what/when/where and how... Now if there only a tool for why...?

Yesterday's Blogger Outage
Not a pretty site yesterday -- After several attempts, I finally gave up and sent a file via FTP which I had edited manually (-ew!) and went home. I left blogger to do its dirty-work (hoping it would do nothing) and found my blog this morning looking like a drunk the morning after. Luckily - I was able to republish this morning and it's all back to normal. Sorry to anyone who had to view the mess!

Topic Labels in blogger-beta, technorati etc.
I really am defining my website with the topic labels, Thank you(!) blogger-beta for the update as it helps with the 'niche marketing' everyone is blogging about. Niche Marketing... hmmm - what does this mean to you?
My Website Motto is: "* Robin-Ann.com * Professional Web and Photographic Content :: We Care About Your {+Photo +Web +Mobile +HTML} Image"
Shall this be considered an Artists blog then? ...and tho' I am a Professional Photographer and also a Webmaster (loosley translated 'btw'), I would really have to consider myself a Professional Artist - so appropriate content will follow!
This is a digital Art link - fun for anyone not nescessarily an artist - or those artists too busy to make something 'on-a-whim' or 'on-the-fly' - heh.

http://www.imagechef.com - touting:"..modify text in a variety of image templates to create professional quality images with your own personal touch."
Real Fun! Now have fun :)

Professional Thoughts for Better Photography
Nikon, RAW file format v. JPG:
I shoot with a Nikon D2H. Soon I will purchase the D2Xs, strictly for the megapixel jump from 4.3 to about 12... Big difference. The D2H has its advantages so I plan to keep it as a backup and also for the times I want to shoot fast subjects in bright light - these are the only two real reasons I can come up with to keep it, otherwise into Ebay I would roam. I admit, I was sucked into the RAW file format for/from Nikon. Admittingly, it is a great mode to shoot in for commercial projects that move quickly - the editing is sometimes your only savior. Portraits, architectural, still lifes, you get the idea can and should all be shot in either .TIF or .jpg depending on the desired output. Read this white paper which convinced me : JPG vs Raw: Get it Right the First Time if you have any doubt!
How to take better photographs:
I am a firm believer in "Get it right in the camera." Truely this skill seperates the amateurs from the professionals.
[ Check out this 'self-portrait' I achieved in camera while standing in from of the Detroit skyline from the Canadian side (maybe you've seen it): Robin Ann Peters in Canada with Detroit skyline in background. (I will post how I achieved this photograph in another blog entry.) ]
Recently, I read a great quote saying (I'll paraphrase here), "If it's not worth painting a picture of what you are photographing, don't shoot it."
The two of these quotes, and you can quote me on them, have inspired a new level to my photography: and I have actually put my camera down for quite a while while I have been meditating over them. I miss shooting but nonetheless am refinding and refining a new ground in which to tread.
I am looking forward to where it all bring me, or should I say where I bring myself.
