Widespread PIXEL Misconception
Did you know that a pixel is NOT the shape of a square? This misconception is fueled by photo printing technologies and what computer monitors produce during close-up image rendering.
"Magnified screen pixels that look like little squares have been
shown to be a quick and dirty trick (pixel replication) by graphics boards designers...To do a true zoom requires a resampling operation and is much slower
than a video card can comfortably support in realtime today." Source
You may have heard abut the DPI of an image. That's DOTS per inch, yah? This should be sufficient evidence enough (since the developers didn't called it SPI or SQUARES per inch -haha) but our mind continues to be deceived through our eyes by the inability of our technology to produce what is inherent to our logical and creative mind.
Considering this paper was published in 1995, WHY does this misconception still exist? ..Don't ask me, I just learned about it today. So tell your friends! Blog about it. I'm sure you will shock more than a few people.
